Stumbling Through Köln

A day trip to Köln, Germany’s fourth largest city, kicked off the 2023 Adventure Travel campaign

Although Köln was on my 2023 Adventures list, it was slated for the Autumn rotation, not Spring/Summer.

However, when the opportunity for a free trip comes along, even if it is a work assignment, best not to look a gift horse in the mouth, right?

This day trip was part of a Spiritual Resiliency event. The theme, “Know Your Purpose,” included discussions on the concept of finding a life purpose.

My job was to follow along, capture images and interview attendees about their experiences. I did find time to enjoy myself as well, despite a heavy downpour.

KÖLNER DOM

The Hohe Domkirche Sankt Petrus, or Cathedral Church of Saint Peter, was the main highlight of the day trip.

The cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne and of the administration of the Archdiocese of Cologne. It is also one of the finest examples of German Catholicism and Gothic architecture.

Declared a World Heritage Site in 1996, construction began in 1248, yet wasn’t completed until 1880.

One of the most cherished treasures of the Cologne Cathedral is the relics of the Three Wise Men. The fact the shrine holds the bones of the three wise men is for this reason Cologne Cathedral exists today.

CITY LIFE

Time restrictions limited visiting additional sites. After all, this was a work assignment. Nevertheless, I was able to snap a few City Life photos.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Köln is a wonderful city. I’m happy I was able to explore it. Best yet – it was a free trip.

Adventure 2023 continues, heading to the Scandinavian region to explore Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital city.
