“All Aboard:” Riding Prague Vintage Tram

My Prague Adventure continued as I eagerly searched for one-of-a-kind experiences to truly immerse myself in the lively pulse of this enchanting city.

While I cherished the seamless efficiency of the city’s public transport system — especially Tram #22 — I soon discovered another captivating way to navigate the cobblestone streets and hidden alleys of Prague.

Introducing Prague’s Historic Tram Line No. 42. This unique tram, a part of the Prague Public Transit Company history line, offers both residents and visitors a journey through the city’s cobblestone streets that are steeped in nostalgia. Tram #42 operates as a hop-on, hop-off service, inviting guests to step back in time and imagine the city as it was during the Austro-Hungarian era or the 1970s.

I’ve always enjoyed the hop-on, hop-off bus tours in different cities, but nothing had prepared me for the exhilarating experience of riding a historic hop-on, hop-off train!

The moment I boarded, I felt an electric rush of excitement, anticipating the adventure ahead. With vintage charm and the rhythmic clatter of the wheels on the tracks, I knew I was about to embark on a captivating journey through the heart of the city. Each stop promised a new discovery— hidden gems, iconic landmarks, and intriguing stories waiting to unfold.

I couldn’t wait to see what awaited me at each station!

Like Tram #22, Tram #42 conveniently stopped right in front of the Hotel Savoy, my accommodation for my stay in Prague. This made the decision to buy a ticket even easier, knowing I could easily hop on and off the tram during my explorations.

Once I hopped on board, I dove right into capturing videos of the ride like a modern-day tourist.

But by the third stop, I realized I was missing the real magic happening outside my camera lens.

So, I settled back, put my feet up and let the enchanting city of Prague unfold before me. It was a delightful click-clatter symphony as we glided up and down the cobblestone streets, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the surreal scene.

Honestly, I half-expected a gnome to pop up and start tap dancing on the sidewalk — it was just that whimsical! Who needs a travel guide when you have a tram ride bursting with charm and quirky surprises?

The ticket costs 400 CZK, or approximately $18. A ticket is free with the Prague Visitor Pass. Hmm, I should have thought more about purchasing the pass.

So, if you’re simply looking for transport around the city, this ain’t the tram for you.

If you’re seeking a leisurely way to enjoy some of Prague’s most iconic views, the tram’s 24-hour ticket is a worthwhile investment. With this ticket, you can sit back and take in the incredible sights of Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, the Vltava River, and Lesser Town, making the tram ride a memorable part of any Prague adventure.
