My Suomenlinna Adventure continued as I sought to learn more about the captivating history of this magnificent sea fortress.
After spending an invigorating 90 minutes walking along The Blue Route, soaking in the stunning views and fascinating sights, I finally entered the Suomenlinna Museum, eager to continue my journey through time.
Let’s be honest, I needed to get out of the cold air and warm up. There aren’t many better ways to do this and uncover the rich tapestry of history.
Thanks to my Helsinki Card, admission was hassle-free, and it made me realize just how invaluable this card is for anyone eager to explore the city’s treasures.
If you’re planning your very own Helsinki Adventure, the Helsinki Card is definitely worth considering!
Once inside the museum, I was swept away by the immersive presentations that chronicle the fortress’s over 275-year saga.
From its strategic dry docks to the lives of soldiers and residents, the exhibits offered a glimpse into the everyday existence of those who called Suomenlinna home.
The exhibition is a treasure trove, showcasing an array of intriguing objects, tools, weapons, and ammunition unearthed from the depths of Suomenlinna.

The main exhibition masterfully paints a comprehensive picture of the fortress’s past, illuminating the lives of its inhabitants during the 18th and 19th centuries and the meticulous restoration efforts that have preserved its grandeur.
Suomenlinna Experience
One of the highlights of my visit was the captivating short film, “Suomenlinna Experience,” which skillfully narrates the fortress’s complex story from its inception to the modern day.
The 25-minute show was not only informative but also engaging, offering a rich visual journey that left me enthralled with its detailed recounting of the fortress’s intricate history.
It didn’t rival “Fire and Steel,” the immersive film at Dublin’s GPO. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the film’s detailed recollection of the fortress’s intricate history.
I was pleased with the museum’s thoughtful provision of headphones and audio guides available in multiple languages, making this experience accessible and enriching for visitors from around the world.
IN WONDERMENT
My museum visit lasted about 75 minutes. As I wandered through the halls, the stories and artifacts on display painted a vivid picture of the fortress’s strategic importance through the ages. I found myself reflecting on how places like this preserve our shared heritage and connect us to the past.

It was a humbling experience, reminding me how vital it is to safeguard these treasures for future generations. Each display sparked a curiosity within me, and I left with a renewed respect for the enduring legacy of this remarkable site.
