Munich, the third largest city in Germany, was a stopover during Birthday Adventure 2022. This city has never been on my travel lists. However, it was a great layover between my stays in London and Prague.
Sadly, a global political summit coincided with my visit, so many places I’d researched to visit were off-limits. Places weren’t closed, just areas where large crowds of protestors gathered. Best to avoid if not actively participating.
Making plans to visit again. Two days, (really only one non-travel day) is not enough to explore this historic city.
Nevertheless, my two-night stay wasn’t all terrible. A photo safari provided a nice glimpse of life in this beautiful town.
MERCURE HOTEL MUENCHEN CITY CENTER
The 4-star Mercure Hotel Muenchen City Center served as my lodgings. Overall a nice stay. Customer service was very helpful, and even lent me an umbrella when a rainstorm passed over the city. The hotel is a six-minute walk from the Central Train Station and within walking distance of a few restaurants.
Booked a Superior Room with a double bed & an armchair. The room size surprised me.The hotel’s website stated it was about 25 m² / 269 sq ft, but it felt larger upon entering. The bathroom was a decent size too. No bumping into anything when trying to use the toilet.
Bed was comfy and no issues with hot water for showers. Only wished it had a bathtub. Wi-Fi worked very well. I absolutely loved the free mini-bar. Nice to have a small selection of soda, water and snacky-snacks available after a day exploring.
The location, while convenient to catch trains, was a little suspect after dark, but I never felt unsafe.
The only negative was the €24 for breakfast, which I declined. The price didn’t justify the standard continental fare with no hot dish options.
PHOTO SAFARI
Pretty much all I had time to do was a city life photo safari. Nevertheless, I did my best to explore and enjoy this lovely city.
